OUR FIGHTER Christopher Carson

THE STORY OF GREAT COURAGE

If one looked up the term 'determined' they just might see a picture of Chris Carson. It is that determination that kept him fighting as he lay on the side of the road near the Daisy Mountain exit in Anthem, Arizona where his truck flipped multiple times on his way to work on Monday, October 29th. Chris was ejected from the back window of his truck and landed twenty to thirty feet from his vehicle. As he lay on the side of the road, gasping for air, he was looking down on his injured body and he ask God to take him and take him quickly and at that moment God showed him a vision of myself and our daughter and he then said to God, “No God don’t take me, I know this will be hard, but I have to be strong for my wife and little girl”, at that instant he was back in his body and it was only by grace that a John C. Lincoln nurse came upon the scene and helped stabilize Chris's neck until help arrived. He was later air evacuated to St. Joseph Medical Center where he was rushed into emergency surgery. Doctor's soon discovered the he endured a 'burst fracture' of cervical disc 5 and 6 and a T11 compression fracture. He also had staples placed in the top of his head.

Chris is a man of great faith, and he will need more of that faith and determination as he moves forward with his fight. Unfortunately, that is not all he will need. He was the sole breadwinner for our young family, myself and our daughter Shelby (two-and-a half). Chris is such a hard worker and I don't want him to half to worry about how Shelby and I will survive. He needs all his attention focused on healing and being strong! I made a promise to Chris while he lay in the hospital, that I would fight for everything that he has worked so hard to accomplish. I refuse to give up that fight as he refuses to give up his fight. He has a big 'V' shaped scar on his head - I told him that the 'V' was for VICTORY!'

When Chris was assessed by the rehab doctor’s in ICU, they told us that he would never have feeling or movement for the neck down and they were only going to give him two weeks in Rehab for family training. Chris refused to listen to what the doctor’s told him and will never give up his fight to walk again. After two weeks past in Rehab he had some movement in his left arm and slight movement in is right arm. They can’t explain why Chris is having such improvements, but I can. Chris has never said one negative thing about what has happened to him, he has never lost faith in God and he will never give up. He has such an incredible attitude! The other patient’s in the rehab center come up to Chris and thank him for being such an inspiration in their life. They will tell him things like, “Chris because of you I was able to get through my therapies today.” When Chris enters the Rehab gym in the morning’s he lights up the room with his positive, excited and determined attitude. When he hears the other patients giving up he yells out to them, “Come on you can do it, we are all 100% recovery!” He is amazing! The doctor’s have actually come to Chris and told him that they were concerned because he has such an awesome positive attitude… and he told them, “what do you want me to do? Roll over and be angry that is not going to heal me or do me any good, and his famous words, “Let’s Rock this Party!” What an inspiration to so many and what a great father and husband. Attitude is Everything!
